🐔 Devlog #1 – "Find the Chicken!" Enters the Dungeon!
Hey folks! 👋 I’m Krishnamohan Yagneswaran, and welcome to the very first devlog of my wacky, chaotic, dungeon-exploring project:
“Find the Chicken” – A Dungeon Crawler… with Feathers. 🕹️ What is it? This game started as a game jam idea — I wanted to take the classic tile-based dungeon crawler formula (inspired by legends like Dungeon Master, Legend of Grimrock, and Eye of the Beholder) and throw in mechanics from other genres — roguelike systems, physics puzzles, survival stamina, and mystery rooms — all wrapped around a simple, ridiculous goal:
“Find the missing chicken… or die trying.” 🐔
🎮 Gameplay Vibes First-Person + Grid-Based Movement (classic 90° tile turns)
Roguelike Elements: Randomized rooms[in futre], item-based combat, permadeath-lite
Physics-Based Obstacle Rooms (boulders, traps, bounce puzzles) [only one implemenetd so far]
Genre Mashup: Think Portal meets Skyrim meets Chicken Run (okay maybe not that last one… or maybe yes?)
🐤 Why a Chicken? Because game jams are the best place to go a little unhinged 😄 I wanted to take a silly plot and wrap it in solid mechanics. Sure, you’ve slain dragons before… but have you ever:
Navigated collapsing tiles
Solved ancient lever puzzles
Fought off dungeon slime…
… all while chasing one mischievous chicken?
🔨 What’s Working So Far ✅ FPS-style tile system
✅ Stamina logic
✅ Scene transitions with fade
✅ Buttons for Play, Quit, Visit Site, and even Donate
✅ Intro dialogue and lore-ready UI
This is just the beginning! I’m keeping the tone light, the gameplay tight, and the feathers flying. 🐓 If you’re into weird-but-fun projects made with heart — this is for you.
Stay tuned for Devlog #2 👀 Let’s find that chicken together!
